چکیده
Abstract Introduction PC is a radiological intervention used in the management of high-risk patients with AC. Method A retrospective study outcomes following PC, including success rates, complications, AC resolution, readmissions, and subsequent cholecystectomy. Results Our database identified 28 (14M:14F), median age 73 (range 40-93). 82% were ASA III/IV. Median follow-up was 2 0-8) years. Imaging suggested 61% empyema 39%. 86% calculous. All procedures USS-guided 100% success. resolution occurred 89.3%. Of three unresolved, there 1 death day-1 post-PC (non-procedure related), index cholecystectomy, chronic complicated cholecystitis. 28.6% developed major (1 late biliary peritonitis cholecystocutaneous fistula abdominal wall abscess), 17.9% dislodged drain, 10.7% other. 20 had bile cultures (70% positive, mainly gram-negative). readmitted AC, repeat PC. 21.4% ERCP. 32.1% underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC) index, 4 elective (3 LC, open), emergency (2 LC subtotal, failed open drain insertion). Conclusions both safe effective significant procedural rates rates. There are few complications but morbidities, drains. One-third have

AIM OF THE STUDY The aim of this retrospective study was to report the results of percutaneous cholecystostomy in a selected group of high-risk patients with contraindications of general anesthesia. PATIENTS AND METHODS From October 1995 to December 1999, a percutaneous cholecystostomy was performed in 29 patients with acute cholecystitis. There were 20 women and nine men with a mean age of 8...

BACKGROUND Percutaneous cholecystostomy tube (PCT) placement serves as a treatment option for acute cholecystitis in elderly and critically ill patients. The objective of this study was to compare PCT and cholecystectomy outcomes over time. METHODS PCTs placed from April 1, 1998, to December 31, 2009 (time period 2) were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who underwent cholecystectomies serve...
متن کاملPercutaneous cholecystostomy in the management of acute cholecystitis.
BACKGROUND The mainstay of therapy for acute cholecystitis is cholecystectomy, which has a mortality of 14-30% in high risk patients. An alternative approach in patients suffering from acute cholecystitis with contraindications to emergency surgery is percutaneous cholecystostomy. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of percutaneous cholecystostomy as the initial treatment of acute c...
متن کاملCurrent Status of Percutaneous Cholecystostomy for the Management of Cholecystitis
Acute cholecystitis can arise in two distinct patient populations: (1) the relatively healthy ambulatory patient who develops acute inflammation of the gallbladder as a result of gallstones and (2) the critically ill, hospitalized patient who may or may not have gallstones. For most patients with acute calculous cholecystitis, surgical removal of the gallbladder is the preferred treatment optio...
